proper grooming for a healthy dog or cat   Grooming is an important part of keeping your pet healthy.  Our groomer is Michele Pope, a graduate of the Nash Academy in Lexington.  Michele loves to help your cats and dogs look your best so schedule a visit with her between the hours of 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Mondays through Thursdays.  Our Kennel Manager Jennifer Schafer (another Nash graduate) also does grooming on Fridays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

There are a few things though that you can do at home to help make your pet look their very best.  Prevent the development of painful knots by regularly brushing and combing your pet's hair.  Regular bathing keeps their coat clean, reduces parasite infections, and can prevent shedding.  Be gentle when cleaning their ears though, if you're too rough you may cause a ruptured eardrum, pain, or lacerations of the canal.

Long, untrimmed nails can break and bleed profusely.  If they're making a "clicking" sound across your floor, trim your dog's nails  using special dog nail trimmers.  Have a professional show you how to avoid cutting too high though; within the center of each toenail is the blood and nerve supply for the nail called the quick.
In clear white nails you can see this pinkish area in the middle of the nail.  With dark colored nails it's more difficult so make several small cuts first; accidentally cutting the quick can cause much pain.

  nail clipping is important
